Tank Cake

My brother requested a tank cake for his birthday, and this one is super easy to make! To start out, I used 2 boxes of cake mix. One of them was Duncan Hines butter golden, and the other was Dark chocolate fudge.

I mixed up the boxes in separate bowls, and I dyed the butter golden cake green, and I added black food coloring to the chocolate to make it black. Then I poured my cake batter into a 13x9 inch cake pan, and a 8x8 inch cake pan. I alternated chocolate, yellow, chocolate, yellow, etc.. then marbled it together to make a sort of camouflage pattern.

I baked the cakes in the other according to the back of the cake box, but I had to add a little more time, so I think I ended up cooking them for about 45 minutes. Once they were cooled and out of their pans, I prepared my cake board using a cookie sheet lined with tin foil. I would of used a normal cake board, but I didn't have any.

Meanwhile, I took my icing, and dyed it green. To get the shade I wanted, I had to add a little black.

I crumb coated and chilled my cakes, then iced them with my green icing. Then I stacked my cakes on top of one another, trying to center my square cake in the middle of my rectangle cake.

For the tank's wheels, I used Oreo cookies. I lined them up on the bottom of the cake on both sides,

Finally, for the gun, I used a long pretzel stick.

And the cake is done! That is how easy it is to make a tank cake. I personalized it for my brother, or you can leave it as it is.

Blue and White Swirl Cake

So here it is....my first real cake decorating video and post! I made chocolate cake, filled with chocolate icing, and covered in blue and white flowers and stars. This cake looks a little hard to make, but in reality is very easy ! To start out, I baked two nine inch chocolate cakes, let them cool, and leveled them using my cake leveler. Then I filled and stacked them. I used store bought icing to fill the cake. More info on that below. I finally crumb coated them and put them in the freezer to chill for 15 minutes. For this cake, I made some American buttercream, and dyed half of it blue. I used some blue food coloring I had on hand, and probably put about 5-6 drops of in in my buttercream. I was worried I would not have enough buttercream to pipe on the outside of my cake if I were to fill it with my buttercream. So instead of filling my cake with the buttercream, I used a can of chocolate store bought icing I had in the pantry. So I filled and crumb coated my cakes wi...

Snickerdoodles

Since Fall is here, I thought I would post a fall themed recipe. So I usually use the recipe I have in my Betty Crocker cookbook, but today I wanted to try something different. I went online and found this recipe from Cookies and Cups, so check out her blog. I think I will probably use the Betty Crocker recipe, so I will tell you more about that at the end of this post. As usual when creaming butter and sugar, you really want to make sure you do it well. I think I creamed mine for at least 3 minutes. More time, such as 5 minutes, would be even better. Once the butter is all creamed together with the sugars, you are going to add your egg and egg yolk one at a  time.   Before we mix the eggs, we are going to add our baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla. I didn't include the clip of me adding the baking soda because I didn't want you to get it confused with the cream of tartar, but don't worry, I added it. So once all of that is is ...
